William Morris letter to [John] Oakley [manuscript], circa 1855.

Morris writes to his university friend concerning the contest to design the Lille Cathedral which was won by the English architectural team of Henry Clutton and William Burges. The latter were not allowed to supervise construction because they were Protestant. He hints that Jean-Baptiste Lassus will supervise because he has paid 300 pounds for the privilege and the citizens in Lille do not care.
